Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have experience with βherpingβ?
No! These trips are designed to be accessible for anyone with a deep passion for the wild. Through expert local guiding and the correct safety measures in place, anyone with an interest for herpetology is able to join these tours.
What gear do I need to bring?
1. Waterproof hiking boots or rubber boots
2. Headlamps or good flashlights
3. Camera gear and equipment is of course optional
4. Insect repellent that is preferably not based on DEET (DEET is especially harmful for amphibians)
5. Raincoat
6. Your own water bottle
7. Travel insurance
8. Any necessary medicine, as there is a good chance that the medicine you need is not available on the destination
Is there a required level of fitness?
Yes. While all non-custom expeditions are meant to be accessible and should be fine for anyone with hiking experience, all expeditions of course do vary in difficulty. If this is something you are uncertain about, make sure to run it by us and let us know which expedition you are interested in. The jungle can be hilly, hot and humid, but for our safety as well as the quality of our experience we will always be walking at a relatively slow pace.
Can we handle the animals that we find?
Yes. It is however important to note that the animal will be released back to the original location when it starts to show signs of stress. The health of the wildlife we will encounter is just as important as our own health. When the animal is unbothered, we can take time for photography before releasing it back into the wild.
